Santa Catarina, Brazil
In Baía do Farol there are cannons from an old galleon. Ilha do Arvoredo, where the bay lies, has an English lighthouse dated 1883, maintained by the Navy as a reference point for vessels.
The bottom is covered with soft corals, the gorgonians, and very large groupers of the kinds locally called garoupas and badejos show up around there. On the vertical walls of Saco do Farol the ascidian Cystodytes dellechiajei occurs, usually associated with the zoanthid Protopalithoa variabilis. In March 2014, researchers recorded the shrimp Lysmata ankeri in the bay. The records of this species at Arvoredo and its surroundings extended its known range in the western Atlantic 800 km to the south.
Between December and March, the water at Arvoredo tends to stay between 22 and 25 °C.
