The Al Karim, a 47.5 m cargo ship, was purposely sunk on 24 April 2000 on the house reef of Ranveli. Today the hull sits upright on a sandy bottom, near the resort.
The hull is colonised by coral and hosts moray eels, batfish, stonefish, lionfish and nurse sharks. The wreck has schools of batfish, snappers, trevallies, sweetlips and fusiliers, and on the bottom, beneath the bow, there are nurse sharks and stingrays.
The period from June to October is usually the one most recommended for diving at this site.
