A tongue of reef extends about 1 km south of the Abu Hashish islet, and the dive takes place at its southern tip, where the outer wall has caves.
On the plateau, long hard coral formations offer a chance to see big squid, as well as to meet a turtle or an eagle ray. Along the wall, barracuda and schools of mackerels may pass by.
In the lagoon you often see cornetfish and groups of reef squid hovering in formation, while cuttlefish cross the bottom, changing colour and texture. On the other side of the channel, out on the wall, a big red octopus wanders around, trusting its camouflage. Many bluespotted stingrays and moray eels can also be found.
