Abu Fandira lies in the Halaib triangle, a sparsely populated region near the Sudanese border. Abu Fandira Fogani is the third part of this reef system, alongside Abu Fendira North and Abu Fendira South. The Abu Fendira line of reefs is about 6 km long and runs in an east-west direction. It is a remote reef, and sometimes several days go by without meeting another boat.
Unlike the walls of Abu Fendira North and South, Fogani is known for vibrant coral gardens. In front of the main Abu Fendira reef there are numerous coral blocks covered in soft corals. Beside the Abu Fendira reef, sharks cruise along with large schools of fish and many species of crustaceans.
